3 Fantastic Hair Masks that you Can Make at Home from Scratch

There are a lot of ways that you could be damaging your hair and not even be aware of it. Most people know that using a blow dryer on high heat causes damage, but did you know that towel drying too roughly can cause damage as well? Using a hard comb on dry hair can rip and tear the strands. Even if your hair is thick and lustrous it is not made of steel. Sometimes hair can be really fragile. It’s a good thing that there are such things as hair masks. Keeping that beautiful hair in good health is not such a hard task if you take the time to care for it the right way. Want to know how? We have a few great ways.

What Is A Hair Mask?

Most people envision a mask as something that goes over the face. Not in this case. The goal of a hair mask is to cover each and every strand of hair with a mixture of wholesome ingredients that are formulated to moisturize, protect, heal, and pamper. A hair mask is a conditioning session that goes much deeper than a regular work-in/rinse technique. You blend some key ingredients together that will help to moisturize and heal damage, then work them gently into your hair and scalp. Instead of waiting a minute or two and rinsing it all away, you let it sit for a while. Some leave it in for several minutes, others leave it in overnight. Whatever way works best for you is great. Using high-quality, natural ingredients is crucial for the best results. Not sure how to start? With a little help from Women’s Health Magazine, we have a few recipes for you…

1. For Coarse Or Damaged Hair

If you have dry, damaged hair the best way to bring some moisture back into it is by using fat-based ingredients. Avocados are full of healthy fats that bring health and shine into the hair. Another fine fat to use is egg yolks. Believe it or not, mayonnaise can bring some luster and manageability back into your life. In this case, the ingredients are simple. Here is what you’ll need:

·       ½ avocado

·       1 egg yolk

·       1 teaspoon of virgin olive oil

·       Mixing bowl or cup

·       Mixer or fork

Once you have your ingredients:

Be sure to separate the yolk from the eggwhite before you mix.

Put everything into a bowl and mash it together with a mixer, or a fork.

Work the mixture gently into the hair focusing towards the midpoint up to the ends.

Leave the mask in your hair for 20 minutes, then wash it out with shampoo and rinse well.

2. To Add Extra Shine To Your Hair

Having dull, dry hair can drive anybody bananas. Would you like to add some luster and powerful moisturizing energy to your mop? Use those bananas to bring some dazzle into your life and bounce to those curls. Mixing vibrant banana with sweet honey and protein-packed egg together builds a recipe for shiny success. Here’s what you need:

·       1 healthy, ripe banana

·       1 tablespoon of raw, organic honey

·       1 raw egg yolk

·       Mixing bowl or cup

·       Blender, food processor, or fork

Once you have your ingredients:

Just like the recipe above, make sure to separate the egg yolk from the white before you mix.

Freeze the banana then blend it down to a pulp. You can use a blender, or food processor, or a fork if you’ve got that much time. Make sure it is smooth. Next, add the egg yolk and the honey. You can use the same mixing method you used for the frozen banana if you want or just go with a fork.

Once the mixture is ready, work into your hair from the scalp up to the tips, making sure to put extra care into the tips. Let it sit for 20 minutes then wash it out with shampoo.

3 Revitalize Oily Hair & Fight Dandruff

Unlike the egg yolk, the egg white helps to remove oils from the hair and dead skin from the scalp. When you mix egg whites and lemon juice together you come up with a solution that gently pulls excess oils away from the hair and scalp. This recipe leaves you feeling cleansed and light. Here’s what you need:

·       Egg whites

·       Lemon juice

·       Fork

Once you have your ingredients:

This time, separate the egg white from the yolk and keep the whites in a bowl. You can use between 1 and three eggs. Put a few drops of lemon juice into the mixture and use the fork to whisk them together and mix well. Apply this liberally and thoroughly directly to the scalp. Let this sit between 20 and 30 minutes, but no longer than 30. Rinse well with water then wash the mixture completely out with shampoo.
